Springfield Recreation Field Clean-Up and Fence Installation

Looking for individuals willing to help to install fencing at the Recreation Field located across from the Town Offices.

Conservation Commission Highlights: June 5th

Town Lands Inventory: John and Cynthia returned to the Kinsley lot and found additional boundary posts. The CC would like to ask the Select Board for permission to renew the red blazes that are faded and discuss with them concerns about the damage to the wetlands done by the power company when they went in to cut around the power lines. Don volunteered to relay to the Select Board the CC’s concerns about the old lumber left behind in the wetlands when the snowmobile club put in a new bridge, as it is the snowmobile’s responsibility to clean up that debris. The Brooks lot will be the next piece of town property to be investigated. John will ask Brandt to put something on the town website letting people know about this project and inviting people to come along on these visits to town owned land.

Conservation Easement: It was noted that the Baptist Pond Trust has donated a conservation easement to ASLPT on shore land on Baptist Pond. A certificate of appreciation will be sent to the Trust from the CC.

Selectmen Meeting Highlights: June 10th

Veteran’s Credit: Paula Clemente, from the Department of Revenue, has completed her review of Exemptions and Credits. The Selectmen agreed to honor the Veteran’s Credit for residents who have been receiving the credit through 2008. New applications will be screened for appropriate documentation. Veteran’s who do not have appropriate documentation will be asked to provide such before the end of 2008. The Board approved the preliminary notification letter.

Misuse and abuse of the raft at the beach and possible solutions were discussed. Beach rules and Skateboard park rules were reviewed. The Board will post rules on the website. Don moved to post two additional "Swim At Your Own Risk" signs at the beach, seconded by John and unanimously approved.

Linda Welch, Cemetery Trustee discussed revisions to Cemetery Rules the Trustees have completed. Following review, the Selectmen approved the proposed changes. Copies will be laminated and posted at the cemetery and made available when a site is purchased.

Dallas Patten, Fire Chief. Dallas questioned what the status of parking at the recreation field was. John Chiarella affirmed that this is on the list of future projects, but funds for this are unknown at this time. Dallas conveyed concerns from his department regarding vehicle parking on both sides of the emergency entrance. Fire members are worried about pedestrians crossing the access road when members are responding to and from the department in an emergency. The Selectmen discussed placing no parking signs along the right side of the entrance.

Computer update: Janet reported that NH Computer Specialists has completed installation of the server and new computers. There have been a few problems which have been quickly resolved.

Winter Maintenance Reduction: Neal reported on the outcome of the reduced winter maintenance meeting held by NH DOT. Winter salt use will be reduced in the areas of Little Lake Sunapee and Lake Kolelemook.

SPRINGFIELD HISTORICAL SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING

The Springfield Historical Society is proud to present the outstanding talents of the Orzechowski family playing music influenced by French-Canadian, Irish, Scottish, English and Cape Breton style fiddling. Featured on several recordings, the family has performed with the Christmas Revels in Hanover and the Revels North Summer Solstice Festivals.  Jane, mother of the Sophie age 17 and Neil age 14, has performed on the Millennium stage at the Kennedy Center, at the US Capitol concert series on the East Lawn, at the Library of Congress, and the Smithsonian Folk life Festival on the mall in Washington, DC. Sophie traveled to Norway in 2005 to perform for Morris and contra dancing in a cross-cultural exchange program. Neil apprenticed with Dudley Laufman through the NH Arts Council for calling and fiddling for traditional NE barn dances. This very special program, open to the public and free of charge, will honor the many years of outstanding service to our society by long time members, Bob Nulsen and Muriel Tinkham.
